Setting 2022 Intentions

Mindset, Blog

I’m not one for resolutions, but I do love the fresh start of a new year! There is just something about January 1 that feels like I can let go of the things that didn’t go so well last year and build on the things that were great! When it comes to the new year I like to set intentions and goals versus resolutions. I also like to share them publicly to help hold me accountable…so here we go!

Intention #1 – More quality family time!

I’ve been working a lot on my schedule. I tend to be a workaholic and since there is always something that CAN be done and since my office is right outside my kitchen, I tend to do it. I’ve spent some time working on my schedule and have the goal of ending my day when I pick my daughter up at school. I’m much more of a morning person anyway so yes this does mean getting up a little earlier in the morning! 😝

That means we can get homework done and hang out a bit before school activities and dinner. I’m also a big fan of Hello Fresh. This allows me to still cook great meals without having to spend as much time shopping or planning!! I also have a financial goal so that we can get a house cleaner two times a month. That will help us all be able to do more fun things on the weekends!

Intention #2 – Take better care of myself.

As a mom, wife, and business owner, I definitely don’t put myself first. This comes to play in all areas from simple things like drinking water to taking 30 minutes out of a day for myself.

I’m a big fan of not trying to change too many things at once, it doesn’t work and it sets you up for failure. My first things to tackle are:

    • drink more water!! I’m going to do this by keeping a water bottle by my desk and setting an alarm on my phone to remind me to refill it throughout the day.
    • move my body! I’m not going to go crazy here. Even 15 minutes a day can make a difference. I’ve already blocked off time on my calendar each morning to get this done.
    • me time. I love my Saturday mornigns but I don’t always get those. So I’m blocking 30 minutes in the middle of the day for lunch. I will eat food, not at my desk, and do something I want to do for those 30 minutes.

Intention #3 – Save for a vacation

Yes, I have financial goals for my Color Street business AND for my marketing business. Instead of tracking against a financial goal I want to track towards a reward. My family and I love to travel. We just haven’t had the opportunity to do much of that these past two years…thanks COVID! 😂

I like to remind myself my motivation for why I do what I do and a family trip will do just that!!! We have a few travel destinations we’re entertaining, but always looking for recommendations. The goal is to have the trip booked by this fall!

Intention #4 – Be more comfortable with me.

Building confidence is no easy task. I have been working a lot on this in 2021 and have already started to see growth. I don’t always feel like I’m being sent to the principal’s office when a client says, “can we talk?” I’m trusting myself more and knowing my worth more each and every day. This year I want to keep up with the mindset. I truly feel that this is something that is ALWAYS a work in progress. And if I don’t keep up with it then it slips back into stress and anxiety.

Some things I do:

    • BREATHE! On days of high stress or moments when I’m feeling overwhelmed I sit back, put my hands in my lap, close my eyes and just take a few deep breaths.
    • take the dog for a walk. Just a quick walk around the block can do wonders.
    • put on som upbeat music. Something that will make me smile or a song that brings me back to a happy memory.

Intention #5 – Say no or let me show you, more often.

My gut tells me all the time what I should and shouldn’t do. But often I find myself saying yes to things just because I’ll get it done fast, get it done in my timeline and because it makes it easier on everyone else. This year, I’m going to say no more often. I also want to have a bit more patience to show and teach more instead of just take care of. Teach a human to fish right!

This is prevalent in my personal and business worlds. Little things like putting my kids laundry away for them. Big things like not passing off additional tasks to my virtual assistant because they won’t do it EXACTLY like I want them too. Patience and then remembering to breathe and that we all make mistakes and it’s ok!

Conclusion

I definitely don’t want to set too many intentions. I want to set myself up for success. I truly feel mindset dictates a lot of the success we have. I’m excited to go into 2022 building on things that worked for me in 2021 and allowing these intentions to let go of the things that I don’t want more of.

I can’t wait to see what 2022 has in store!! It’s going to be incredible.
